The World’s New Fastest Accelerating Car The Ariel Atom V8

The Ariel Atom has been disappointing supercars for a few years, but now they've replaced the original Honda engine with a big powerful V-8 to make the limited production Atom 500, taking the crown for the world's fastest accelerating car in the process.

The car comes equipped with a 3.0-liter V8 engine that produces 500bhp at 10,600rpm and 284 lb-ft of torque at 7,750 rpm. The Ariel Atom V8 key to speed off the line is the power-to-weight ratio of 909bhp per tonne, which is more than 50 percent better than that of the Bugatti Veyron. The Bugatti Veyron Super Sports has achieved 644bhp/tonne. The Ariel Atom V8 weighs 550kg, manages an incredible 200mph and does 0-60mph in a claimed 2.3 seconds and 0-100 mph in just 5.4 seconds.

The drive is through a hydraulically activated Sadev 6 speed sequential race gearbox, which accounts for flat up-shifts and brings shift times to just 40 milliseconds. The LCD dash display displays the shift lights and current gear position. The uprated suspension features aerofoil section wishbones and pushrods. The aluminum monotube dampers come with remote reservoirs and the magnesium wheels help keep unsprung weight down.

The machine also has the carbon fiber bodywork, extra structural bracing in the engine compartment and the chassis powder coated with a gold finish.

Study Shows An Average Teen Sends 3,339 Texts/Month

Today's teenagers send a lot of text messages & according to a new study from Nielsen, the average teenager sends 3,000+ texts per month. That's more than six texts per waking hour.

Nielsen analyzed the mobile data habits of more than 60,000 mobile subscribers and surveyed more than 3,000 teens during April, May and June of this year.

Average Texts Per Month & Age:

3,339 texts per month – Age between 13 and 17 (Females 4,050 & Males 2,539)
1,630 texts per month – Age between 18 and 24
323 texts per month – Age between 25 and 54

This is 75-percent more than last year.

It seems that people are gradually using texting as a substitute for old-fashioned phone calls. Nielsen's numbers indicate that adults made and received an average of 188 phone calls per month during the second quarter of 2010, marking a 25-percent decline over the past three years. Monthly talk minutes, meanwhile, declined by 5-percent since last year, and 17-percent among 18- to 24-year olds.

In 2008, the main reason anybody got a phone was for safety, even among teenagers. That's not true anymore; 43% of teenagers now say texting is the number one reason they get a cell phone. Safety is number two, with 35%, while 34% of teenagers say they get cell phones to keep in touch with friends.

It's impossible to say precisely why people are sending more text messages. The Wall Street Journal suggests that social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter may be partially to blame, as they typically encourage users to communicate in short, pithy language, and often send users texts to keep them updated.
